A certified compostable alternative to conventional cling film.

Designed as a practical alternative to conventional fossil-plastic cling film, this transparent and flexible film is particularly useful for protecting plant pots and covering soil during treatments with The Plant Guardian, helping prevent excess product or water from reaching the growing medium.

Unlike conventional cling film, this product has been specifically formulated and independently certified for industrial compostability.

What is it made from?

Transparency matters to us.

The film is composed primarily of PBAT (94–98%), together with PLA (2–6%), according to the manufacturer's current product specification.

PBAT (polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate) is a biodegradable polyester. The PBAT used in this product is petroleum-derived, rather than plant-derived. PLA (polylactic acid), meanwhile, is a bio-based polymer.

This distinction is important: bio-based and biodegradable do not mean the same thing. The origin of a material describes where its raw materials come from; biodegradability describes what microorganisms can do with that material under specified environmental conditions.

For this reason, Green Embassy does not describe this product as plastic-free, 100% natural or 100% plant-based.

Certified industrially compostable

The finished film is independently certified by DIN CERTCO as an industrially compostable material under:

DIN EN 13432:2000-12
ASTM D6400:2023-03

DIN CERTCO Registration No. 7P1855. Certificate valid until 31 March 2028. The certification applies to uncoloured, unprinted film up to a maximum thickness of 113 μm.

These standards assess whether a material can satisfactorily biodegrade and disintegrate under controlled composting conditions without compromising the resulting compost. ASTM D6400 specifically applies to plastics designed for aerobic municipal and industrial composting facilities.

What does “industrially compostable” actually mean?

It does not mean that the film should be discarded in nature, buried in the garden, placed in waterways or assumed to disappear rapidly under ordinary environmental conditions.

Industrial composting provides controlled conditions including: temperature, moisture, oxygen and microbial activity; designed to facilitate biological decomposition.

Always follow the compostable-waste collection rules of your local municipality or waste operator. Where suitable industrial composting collection is unavailable, do not place the film in conventional plastic recycling unless your local waste operator specifically accepts it.

Why we chose it

The purpose of this product is not to present a compostable material as impact-free.

It is to offer a certified end-of-life alternative to conventional cling film for applications where a flexible disposable film is genuinely useful, while being transparent about both its advantages and its limitations.

At Green Embassy, we believe environmental choices should be based on evidence rather than labels. Compostable does not necessarily mean plant-based, natural or suitable for disposal anywhere.
