The difference between an ingredient being soluble in water and the same or other ingredient being chelated by EDTA lies in their availability, stability, and effectiveness for plant uptake.

Example 1: 1.2g Zinc (Zn) soluble in water (1200ppm per 1L)

• The zinc is dissolved directly in water, meaning it's in its ionic (free) form. This makes it immediately available for plant absorption. However, in alkaline soils (high pH), zinc tends to precipitate (become unavailable) by reacting with other soil elements like phosphorus, forming insoluble compounds. Works well in acidic soils or as a foliar spray, but may not be effective in certain soil conditions. 

 

Example 2: 1.2g Zinc (Zn) chelated by EDTA (1200ppm per 1L)

• The zinc is bound to EDTA (Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid), a chelating agent that protects it from reacting with soil components. Works well in both acidic and alkaline soils and can also be applied as a foliar spray.
• Chelation refers to a process where a nutrient, typically a metal ion (like zinc, iron, copper), is bonded to a molecule (called a chelating agent) that makes it more stable and easier for plants to absorb specially by the roots.
• In fertilizers, chelated micronutrients prevent the nutrient from reacting with other compounds in the soil, especially in alkaline soils where nutrients tend to become insoluble and unavailable to plants.
• Common chelating agents include EDTA, DTPA, or citric acid.
• Comes from the Greek word "chele" (claw), meaning to bind or grasp

Total Nitrogen (N) - 4%

• This represents the total amount of nitrogen present in this fertilizer, including both organic and inorganic forms.

Organic Nitrogen (N) – 2.8%

• This comes from natural sources (compost, manure, plant extracts, amino acids, or other organic materials).
• It means it has a slow release meaning, it must be broken down by soil microbes before plants can absorb it.
• Improves soil structure and microbial activity, making it great for long-term soil health.

Ammonia Nitrogen (N) – 1.2%

• This is an inorganic, immediately available nitrogen form.
• Fast-acting: Plants can absorb it quickly, but it can also volatilize (evaporate) if left on the soil surface.
